How Stripe Invoicing Works on iBill.ca

Three steps to start accepting online payments. Your Stripe account stays yours — iBill.ca never holds your funds.

1

Connect Your Stripe Account

Go to Settings › Online Payments in iBill.ca and click Connect Stripe. Create a new Stripe account or link an existing one in about 5 minutes. Stripe handles business verification directly.

2

Send an Invoice

Create and send any invoice the way you normally would. A Pay Online button automatically appears on the invoice PDF, the email, and the client portal — no extra steps needed.

3

Get Paid to Your Bank

Your client pays via Stripe's secure payment page. Stripe processes the payment and deposits it directly to your Canadian bank account. iBill.ca automatically records the payment and updates your accounting ledger.

How Payments Work

When your client clicks Pay Online, they're taken to Stripe's secure payment page. Stripe handles the transaction end-to-end — what Stripe supports is documented at stripe.com/payments.

Your Stripe Account

iBill.ca connects to your own Stripe account via Stripe Connect. You hold the relationship with Stripe, not iBill.ca. Funds settle directly to the bank account linked to your Stripe account.

Direct to you

Auto-Charge Recurring Invoices

After the first payment (with client consent), iBill.ca can charge the same payment method off-session when the next recurring invoice is issued — no manual step required.

Auto-charge

Automatic Ledger Reconciliation

Successful payments flow back via Stripe webhooks. iBill.ca automatically marks the invoice paid, creates a payment record, and posts the accounting journal entries.

Zero manual work

Why Stripe on iBill.ca

No Platform Fee From iBill.ca

iBill.ca does not take a cut of your payments. You pay only Stripe's standard Canadian processing fees, charged directly by Stripe. We don't mark up or skim.

Money Goes Directly to Your Bank

Stripe Connect Standard means the funds move from Stripe to your Canadian bank account — iBill.ca never holds, touches, or routes your money.

Automatic Accounting Entries

Every Stripe payment creates a complete double-entry journal entry: bank debit, revenue credit, and separate lines for GST, HST, PST, or QST collected.

Multi-Currency Support

Invoice clients in CAD, USD, EUR, or GBP. Stripe handles currency conversion and deposits the converted amount to your Canadian bank. See multi-currency invoicing.

Stripe Fee Tracking

The Stripe processing fee on each payment is tracked automatically in iBill.ca and expensed to your P&L. Your year-end tax prep stays accurate without manual reconciliation.

Auto-Charge Recurring Invoices

For subscription-style billing, retainer clients, or monthly service agreements, iBill.ca can automatically charge your client's saved payment method each billing cycle — no manual send-and-follow-up.

How it works:

Auto-charge uses whatever payment method your client used the first time, subject to what Stripe supports. See stripe.com/payments for Stripe's current capabilities.

Common Questions

How do I accept online payments on invoices with iBill.ca?
Connect your Stripe account from Settings › Online Payments. Once connected, a Pay Online button appears on every invoice you send. Clients pay via Stripe's secure payment page, and payments are recorded automatically in your accounting ledger.
How do my clients pay?
Clients click the Pay Online button on your invoice and are taken to Stripe's secure payment page to complete payment. iBill.ca does not process payments directly — Stripe handles the transaction end-to-end. Stripe's supported payment methods and regions are documented at stripe.com/payments.
Are payments in Canadian dollars?
Yes. iBill.ca supports CAD invoices paid in CAD, with Stripe depositing directly to your Canadian bank in CAD. Multi-currency invoices (USD, EUR, GBP) are also supported — Stripe handles conversion and deposits the converted amount.
What are the processing fees?
iBill.ca does not add any platform fee on top of Stripe. You pay only Stripe's standard Canadian rates, which are charged directly by Stripe — current rates are published on Stripe's Canadian pricing page.
How fast are payouts to my bank account?
Payouts follow Stripe's standard Canadian payout schedule — see stripe.com/docs/payouts for current timing. The payout is automatic once Stripe has cleared the payment.
Can I auto-charge recurring invoices?
Yes. When a client pays their first Stripe invoice, iBill.ca can save their payment method (with consent) for off-session recurring charges. Enable auto-charge on any recurring invoice schedule and iBill.ca will charge automatically on each billing date.
Does this work with iBill.ca's accounting?
Yes. Every Stripe payment automatically creates a complete double-entry journal entry: debit bank, credit revenue, and separate lines for GST/HST/PST/QST collected. Stripe processing fees are tracked as an expense so your financial statements and tax filings stay accurate.
Is my client's payment data secure?
Card data never touches iBill.ca's servers — it's sent directly to Stripe via a secure Checkout session. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified, the highest level of payment security. iBill.ca only stores a Stripe customer ID and masked card details for display.
What if I already use Stripe for my business?
No problem — you can link your existing Stripe account to iBill.ca during the connect flow. Your existing customers, fee rates, and bank account settings all carry over. iBill.ca simply creates invoices inside your existing Stripe account.
Can I disconnect Stripe later?
Yes. You can disconnect Stripe at any time from Settings › Online Payments. Existing payments and payout records stay in iBill.ca, and your Stripe account itself is unaffected.
